CARTER BANK & TRUST COLLECTS MORE THAN 3,000 POUNDS OF SENSITIVE DOCUMENTS FOR SHREDDING IN CHARLOTTESVILLE
In addition, the Bank collected food and monetary donations equal to more than 2,500 meals for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (May 14, 2021) – Charlottesville-area residents dropped off more than 3,000 pounds of sensitive documents at Carter Bank & Trust’s Mill Creek branch to be securely shredded and disposed of by Commonwealth Document Management.
In addition to the documents, visitors donated 214 pounds of food and enough monetary donations to provide 518 meals to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Carter Bank & Trust donated an additional $500, bringing the total to more than 2,500 meals.
“At Carter Bank & Trust, we strive to be a part of the communities we serve, and by hosting events like Shred Day, we’re able to do just that,” Mill Creek Branch Manager James Birckhead said. “We were able to help people and also, through the food collection point, have those people help others in need.”
Carter Bank & Trust holds Shred Days at different locations throughout the VA and NC footprint periodically throughout the year. Last month, the Bank sponsored this year’s Shred-A-Thon and Drug Take-Back event with the Friends of the Town of Hillsville, which took place in the Bank’s Hillsville branch parking lot. This year’s event collected more than 9,500 pounds of documents.
Service is at the heart of Carter Bank & Trust’s CARE Forward program. In addition to serving communities by offering Shred-A-Thons, the bank also donates $10 to a local non-profit for every new personal and business account opened at a branch. Donations for checking accounts opened online are made to the American Red Cross.
